Having to transfer files with adb or pulling out the external sd is getting really annoying: There are a few file explorers based on ADB floating around on the internet, for both windows and linux, iirc. I've also tried the pdanet android drivers, but that didn't work either.

I have Windows 7, but I'll look into problems with media player. When I plug in the phone, it doesn't show up in explorer as a mtp device. If your camera aver neither supported in the current release nor in current SVN trunk, it is possible that it is an old camera for which the original gPhoto driver has not been ported mto mostly due to lack of demand it is a new camera for which there is no support at all.
